First Prize:  Tony Bennett (Australia)

"Gold Rush"
This 2-piece outfit draws inspiration from a display of nuggets from the gold rush days of Kalgoorlie a mining town in Western Australia.

The concept was to produce a fluid contemporary outfit that displayed simple lines yet reflected the trend towards movement and texture in fashion.

The jacket comprises 2 half hour wraps – plated with a poly over lock thread – then hand manipulated to give texture representing the gold nuggets, which were the original inspiration.

The classic cocktail dress also relies on simple lines and movement for its catwalk impact. The dress has been plated but in a slightly different shade to give a tonal contrast – subtle yet effective. The hem line use four half, half-hour wraps to give the movement and flow.

The aim was to create a simple outfit with a modern appeal and visual texture – sometimes less is more.

Second Prize:       Isla Mouat (Southland)

"Simply Stunning"
When you have beautiful yarn who needs fancy.  This garment made of 100% New Zealand Alpaca shows that.

The shell is one strand each of brown and black with detailed darts in front.

Neck and armholes trimmed with black.

The drape which is attached at the hip and shoulder, is one strand very fine black Alpaca, giving elegance to a stunning garment.

Third Prize:            Carol Watson (Southland)

"Strapped In"

Simple styled ‘V’ neck, raglan sleeve dress with varying stripes accompanied with frilled scarf and hand warmers.

Long cuffs and deep band at hem.  The straps can be worn in a variety of ways.

This garment can be worn as a dress or slouched up as a tunic or overtop.  All made in merino.
